I took a look at a fairly extensive article on the new public beta of Windows and I sure liked the new mail program. What I didn't see was any mention of syncing. Do any of you testers know if Windows Mail can be synced with a pda in the beta or is that something we have to wait for? As syncing and, thus reading some of my mail after I'm on the road is important to me, this would make my decision as to whether or not to try the beta release.
Thanks, Tim

Syncing Windows Mail
It can't be I'm afraid - only Outlook (2003 and 2007) can do this with help from the Sync Center. The Office 2007 beta is free to try though (it's Beta 2 however): http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=5026321

ActiveSync is not functional with Windows Vista. It has a replacement for Mobile Devices, but I've not seen it functioning as yet. But, Vista is still a Beta program and there are many things that will be updated or "fixed" as time goes by. -- Jim Pickering

I just tried the Office beta and am very impressed with the new Outlook. Since reading that the replacement for OE will have a calendar, though, it makes Outlook no longer necessary as my calendar needs are really quite basic. Since MS has decided not to include Outlook in the "home" package but added some other item--I've forgotten what--which to me seems absurd, I don't want to upgrade Office any longer--IF I'll be able to sync mail, calendar and addresses with Windows Mail. Obviously there's no rush as, last I heard, we're looking at the end of this year at the very best, for Vista.
Anyway, thanks and if anyone's interest in a non techie opinion of Office 2007, I've looked at Word, Excel and Outlook and am very impressed.

Yes there's not sync features for Windows Mobile devices yet : on the WM blog you can find this post about the upcoming upgrade of the sync center that willl add outlook sync capabilities when a pda is connected for the first time : http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/05/29/610269.aspx (see comments) So wait & see.
